Transform a Cabinet - Transform a Room

We love it when customers share!  Thank you Amy for sending us the pictures of your bathroom transformation.  We want to share with everyone you success story.
Many people have asked us whether CHALK PAINT® decorative paint by Annie Sloan would be good for painting their cabinets, either kitchen or bathroom.  And of course we say absolutely.  It's a perfect choice.  It's easy, no messy sanding or priming.  Just grab your paint brush and paint.  Select the color you want or mix any of the colors together for a custom color.

You may want to start with a class if you're a bit nervous to undertake a large project like cabinets.  We offer Saturday, evening and daytime classes.  You can register on line if you like.  Just click the link and go to the Workshops Only category and select the class that fits your schedule.
The Final Project

 The Starting Point

 Paris Grey CHALK PAINT.
The color was chosen to match the new tile backsplash, but Amy didn't want a too contemporary or cold look.  We think she did a fabulous job - new color on the cabinets, hardware, backsplash, new mirrors.  It looks beautiful and so updated.

This paint really can work magic (almost).
See you soon.

NEW "OLD" DRESSER FOR THE BEDROOM - START TO FINISH

Updating a Dresser and matching Chest

A few weeks ago a local Anoka resident stopped by Paddywac's with a dresser and chest wanting to know if we were interested in purchasing it for the store.  He and his wife had used this set for most of their married life but now had purchased a new one.  Now, we do not normally obtain our items for the store this way, but we saw these beauties and heard the call for CHALK PAINT.  Yes, we were persuaded by CHALK PAINT decorative paint by Annie Sloan.

We could hardly wait to get them painted.  And also not normal for us, we worked on them in the store instead of hauling them to the shop.

We thought we'd share the process as sometimes people have said that they are afraid to start a project because it won't "turn out."  Well we say to that, just get your paint and paint brush and start painting, CHALK PAINT is not scary!

The before - good bones, but it needs an update.

The varnish on these pieces was very shiny so we decided to go over it a bit with sandpaper.  Not hard, took about 5 minutes per piece.  We also filled the extra nail holes with wood filler and sanded.

First coat of Old White CHALK PAINT.
We took the picture before the paint was dry - we had the camera ready!

Each piece was given two coats of Old White, then we distressed with 600 grit sandpaper, then applied the second coat of wax for the final finish.  Painting with CHALK PAINT is a process and when you're done, the finish is beautiful, durable and stunning.

The after - ready for a new home.  See you soon.

DAY AT THE SHOP - NEW LIFE FOR AN OLD TABLE

We've been working at the shop a bit and I'd like to share a project we did.
This sofa table had great bones, but was in very rough shape.  The top was scratched, inlay was coming up and it had a couple of gouges.  We tried using a textured wallpaper and painting it, but it didn't stick.  So we decided to give it a Rustic finish.  First coat was Paris Grey all over and second coat was Old Ochre.  We used a very heavy coat of Paris Grey on the top of the table to get lots of brush stroke texture, and while the paint was wet, we dusted the top very heavily with sawdust (we learned this in NC at Training).  Let it dry, dusted off the excess, lightly sanded (to remove loose dust), and then painted over with Old Ochre.  We let it dry and then sanded the top a bit to remove excess.  Then we clear waxed the whole table, lightly distressing, and then dark waxed over that.  And we might say, it really turned out great.  Love the legs!  What do you think?

Lots of Sawdust in the paint.

Turned out beautiful.

Tricia but a shelf and a new back on this beauty.

This cabinet was very dated and needed a face lift.  Couple coats of paint, clear wax and then dark over the top.  It is adorable.

These are just a few items that have come in and we have lots more on the way!

We hope to see you soon.

A CHALK PAINT CLASS AT PADDYWAC'S

Our first CHALK PAINT 101 class was given at Paddywac's yesterday and it was a great success. Everyone was enthusiastic and eager to learn all about Annie Sloan, what CHALK PAINT really is and how to make the most out of their projects. There were all levels of knowledge and experience - the class offered something for everyone - even if you've been paint for a long time. Our instructor, Jerra, did a fabulous job presenting all the material. There were 4 separate paint techniques taught, everyone got to practice each technique on their individual wood samples, and Jerra also taught wax application - the where/when/how/what color to use!
Thank you everyone for joining us at Paddwac's - we so appreciate your contribution to the class and hope your experience was great.

Class begins.

Lots of questions - we all get to know each other a bit.

4 separate paint techniquest are taught.

Everyone gets to practice with the paint and wax.

Let the fun begin.

Checking out the color chart and the next project to work on at home!

Here comes the wax - Clear and Dark - where and how to use.

Now to go home and start on the next project.
